IHSA RULE:
‘3.100 INDEPENDENT TEAM PARTICIPATION 3.101
During the school season for a given sport, in a school which maintains a school team in that sport, a student shall not participate on any non-school team, nor as an individual unattached in non-school competition, in that given sport or in any competition that involves the skill of the sport in question. Violation shall cause ineligibility for a period not to exceed 365 days. An exception may be made by the Executive Director under the guidelines adopted by the Board of Directors for competitions sanctioned directly by the National Governing Body or its official Illinois affiliate for the sport.’
LWA Pole Vault is a gym that gives lessons, not a competitive club or team. We give Pole vault lessons. Just as you would be able to take batting lessons or pitching lessons from an outside coach during baseball season athletes can take vault lessons at LWA pole vault. An example of a TEAM that is not allowed, would be a travel basketball team, etc. We are NOT THAT. We offer pole vaulting lessons just as someone would go to and speed coach.
To help avoid any potential issues and to make it easier to explain to coach’s that we are NOT A COMPETITIVE CLUB or TEAM we have no status as a USATF and AAU club. We have independent liability insurance for our coaches and vaulters outside of these organizations. During the summer, Athletes are encouraged to join these organizations if they wish to compete in summer track meets (they will compete as unattached athletes and not under the LWA name).
Rule 3.111 (no more than 2 athlets from a coach's school can participate in an event where skill from a specific sport is taught during the school year.)
We have multiple coaches, multiple sessions, and a signup system to ensure this bylaw if followed.
